Ashbourne-based Vital Earth manufactures a range of natural, peat-free, 100% UK-sourced composts and soil improvers, made from recycled garden waste.

Vital Earth is an inherently green company and its plant has been purpose built to recycle garden and kitchen waste. In 2010 the company will successfully divert 90,000 tonnes away from landfill, using what is now the largest and most advanced in-vessel composting site in the UK. Unlike many recycling facilities however, Vital Earth was always conceived as a commercial producer of saleable compost and fertiliser products first and as a waste management operator second. Therefore its drive to lessen environmental impact is always and absolutely driven by the needs of the retail and commercial markets for garden product innovation, by engaging with the consumer in the fulfilling the rapidly increasing desire for ‘green’.

Throughout the years Vital Earth has achieved many prestigious accolades including a Grocer Gold Award, a Green Hero' 2009 Wall Shield and a Jim Balance Marketing Award, as well as being short-listed in the Edie Awards and a GIMA Awards finalist.
